Content Producer
OUTLINE
Students will work together in small groups to develop and produce a conceptually and technically sophisticated creative media production project exploring the theme of ‘my tribe’, with reference to convergence culture theory.
Media objects are to be designed for public distribution online via the ABC’s Pool site, as part of the ABC My Tribe project.
ASSESSMENT VALUE: 50%
TASK
- concept Research and develop a project concept and package for peer, industry and community review, via: convergent media research in Wk2; Draft pitch to be presented to tutorial group Wk5; pitch session before supervising producers and industry leaders at the PP1 Symposium Wk5; posting to the Pool my tribe work-in-progress Group page before symposium
- reflections At least weekly, reflect on your individual learning and progress in ‘Job 2’ via posts to your student blog (posts to be categorised Content Producer): First blog post in this Category should outline personal project goals and self-assessment criteria for this assignment; Posts should focus on key aspects of the process including research and development, feedback and production; Final blog post in this Category should reflect back upon your initial goals and include a considered and well-argued self assessment against the criteria outlined in your first blog post
- work-in-progress Presented in workshop week 8, and on the Pool by Monday of Week 9: Content Producer project teams will post draft work to the Pool My Tribe work-in-progress Group page, for peer and community feedback
- interim performance evaluation Attend a consultation/meeting with your tutor about your progress.
- final media objects By Friday of Week 14, completed Media object to be submitted/uploaded to the Pool My Tribe Group, with promotional material – title, still, one-line synopsis, framing statement (250 words), full credits and attributions – and a link sent to your tutor (supervising producer)

- Tutorial#9 or #10 (Wk9 or 10 TBC) Progress meeting with tutor (in tute room)
- Friday 11th June (Wk 14), 5pm: Final Media Objects posted to Pool (my tribe Group page)
- Thursday 17th June (Wk 15), 5pm: Final Blog Post
ASSESSMENT MODE
Your assignment and contribution to its production will be assessed three ways: by your tutor (weighted 50%), your project group peers (25%) and yourself (25%).
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
Self-assessment; to be outlined in blog post 1 (see above) and approved by your tutor
Peer assessment; to be formulated by project teams, signed by all team-members and approved by your tutor (by Wk 4)
Tutor assessment; project is an engaging, thought provoking and well considered exploration and representation of the theme ’my tribe’; project exploits, in innovative and sophisticated ways, the potential of converged media forms, theories and technologies (ie transmedia narratives, participatory culture, etc); student demonstrates professional presentation and timely submission of all required delivery materials; project is of a technical standard appropriate for final year media students; project demonstrates copyright-compliance with the ABC My Tribe project; student demonstrates a high standard of professional practice, as indicated by: regularity and analytic quality of blog reflections; contribution to class discussion including peer feedback; clarity and transparency in reporting to your supervising producer (tutor).
